THE Guam Memorial Hospital
hopes to be able to improve its telecommunication system with 400 additional
units of digital phones and accessories donated by Continental Airlines
yesterday.
This donation could not have come at a better time as GMH has been
experiencing numerous problems with our telephone system,
GMH administrator PeterJohn Camacho said after receiving the donated telephones
from Wally Dias, Continental Micronesia staff vice president for sales
and marketing.
This phone donation is all about helping the communities where we
live and work. As the only civilian hospital on island, we know our donation
will help the hospital save its resources for its important mission of
saving lives, Dias said.
Gov. Felix P. Camacho, who received the donated phones on behalf of the
hospital, said GMH plans to replace its damaged and missing phones. Some
of the donated units will be placed at the patient rooms of the Skilled
Nursing Unit in Barrigada Heights, he said.
GMH received Meridian and Northern Telecom telephone units with speakerphone
and caller ID sets and standards sets. Continental said some of the units
are brand new, with purchase unit prices that range from $200 to $600.
Continental Micronesia upgraded its communications system over the
years and no longer uses the Centrex Service that the Meridian and Northern
Telecom telephones support, the airlines stated in a press release.
