Remengesau gets award from Taiwan

President Remengesau was bestowed with the Order of Brilliant Jade with Grand Cordon by Taiwan President Chen Shui-bian for "being a great statesman of profound vision and competence."
The president said during his weekly press conference that the award was given to him during the banquet hosted by the Taiwan government for the Palau delegation last Jan. 18.
"In recognition of his achievements, the government of the Republic of China (Taiwan) in accordance with the provisions of Article Three of the Stature Governing the Award of Decorations, has decided by the Presidential Decree to confer upon him the Order of Brilliant Jade with Grand Cordon," the citation said.
Remengesau led a 7-man delegation for a second state visit in Taiwan last week.
In his remarks President Chen said of Remengesau, " being a great statesman of profound vision and competence, Your Excellency’s devotion to and accomplishments in political, economic, social and cultural reforms, and the development of your great country since your assumption of the presidency have been admired and hailed worldwide."
President Chen added that Remengesau has contributed to the maintenance of international justice, world peace and democracy are especially appreciated and praised by the people of Taiwan.
