Senate President Johnny Reklai
yesterday appointed Businessman and Ngatpang State Governor Shallum Etpison
and former Senator John Sugiyama to the 10-man Tax Review Task Force.
In a letter to House Speaker Augustine Mesebeluu, Reklai said that the
two new appointees extensive business experience would be beneficial
to help carry out the task force responsibilities.
Sugiyama chaired the Committee on Ways and Means during his term in the
Senate.
Earlier last week, Mesebeluu appointed Haruo Wilter and George Techur.
President Remengesau also appointed the other six members of the task
force namely Casmir Remengesau (Financial management Advisor MOF), Ricardo
Bausoch (Chief of the Division of Revenue Collection and Taxation), Surangel
Whipps (Private Businessman and Former President of the Chamber of Commerce),
Kenneth Uyehara (private Businessman and President of Chamber of Commerce),
Gov. John Skebong of Ngeremlengui and businesswoman Pricilla Soalablai.
The task force had been created through House Joint Resolution No. 7-48-19S
that would evaluate the current tax system and to provide recommendations
regarding proposed changes to the current tax laws.
