Senate President Johnny Reklai yesterday appointed Businessman and Ngatpang State Governor Shallum Etpison and former Senator John Sugiyama to the 10-man Tax Review Task Force.
In a letter to House Speaker Augustine Mesebeluu, Reklai said that the two new appointees’ extensive business experience would be beneficial to help carry out the task force responsibilities.
Sugiyama chaired the Committee on Ways and Means during his term in the Senate.
Earlier last week, Mesebeluu appointed Haruo Wilter and George Techur.
President Remengesau also appointed the other six members of the task force namely Casmir Remengesau (Financial management Advisor MOF), Ricardo Bausoch (Chief of the Division of Revenue Collection and Taxation), Surangel Whipps (Private Businessman and Former President of the Chamber of Commerce), Kenneth Uyehara (private Businessman and President of Chamber of Commerce), Gov. John Skebong of Ngeremlengui and businesswoman Pricilla Soalablai.
The task force had been created through House Joint Resolution No. 7-48-19S that would evaluate the current tax system and to provide recommendations regarding proposed changes to the current tax laws.
