SLLB fundraising co-ed tournament set for Saturday at Dandan Ballfield

SAIPAN Little League Baseball will be holding its second fundraising co-ed tournament this weekend at the Dandan Elementary School Ballfield.
The games start at 9 a.m. with Got Pugua and the Bombers squaring off in the first game.
The winner of Game 1 will then meet Last Minute at 10 a.m.
Whatta Guy and Team Ng collide in Game 3 at 11 a.m.
The loser of Game 3 and the winner of Game 2 meet for the consolation game at 12 n.n.
The championship match, which will feature the winners of Games 3 and 4, will be played at 1 p.m.
The tournament was originally set for last week, but was moved to this weekend, as little leaguers attended a workshop led by Guam’s JR Hattig, who plays for the Toronto Blue Jays in the major league.
Part of the proceeds from the fundraiser will be used to purchase equipment for the pitch count.
This season, SLLB will be using the equipment to protect its pitchers from injury. Pitchers will be allowed to pitch only a certain number of times. If they reach the limit, they have to be replaced.
A study shows that children are in danger of suffering an injury due to increased season length and more frequent use of breaking pitches.
Meanwhile, SLLB president Joe Salas is reminding members to attend a meeting tomorrow at 6 p.m. at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
Salas said they will be discussing details of the opening of the 2007 season.
The league is tentatively set to kick off on Feb. 11.
Salas said they will be discussing the ground rules, the entrance fee and deadlines for submission of rosters, waivers and other requirements.
According to Salas, 30 teams so far have expressed an interest in joining the league, which will have competitions in the Majors, Junior, Senior and Big divisions.
Salas said that 15 teams are so far entered in the Majors, while the Junior, Senior and Big leagues have five squads each.
