High surf, small craft advisory

(EMO) — Based on the information received from the National Weather Service on Guam, a high surf and small craft advisory remains in effect for Saipan, Tinian and Rota.
A strong winter storm east of Japan has generated long period north swells which are moving through the Mariana islands. Hazardous surf on north and west facing reefs is expected for much of this week for all the islands.
Gov. Benigno R. Fital is strongly advising the general public, especially beachgoers, fishermen, tourists, swimmers, divers and surfers, that there is a high risk of rip currents along north and west facing reefs. Rip currents can be life threatening to anyone entering the water.
