GASOLINE prices
on island have breached the $3 level anew as Mobil yesterday quietly raised
its fuel prices.
Mobil regular gas went up by 10 cents per gallon, from $3.03 per gallon
to $3.18 per gallon.
The price increase reflects the rise in fuel prices in the Singapore fuel
market, where the islands fuel companies source their supplies.
Singapore prices have been increasing since Feb. 20 but so far, the two
other fuel companies on island have not yet announced a price increase
for their gasoline products.
However, this is not expected to last as Shell, South Pacific Petroleum
and Mobil usually mirror each others prices.
Because of the increase in the price of fuel in the international market,
Matson Navigation is also raising its fuel surcharge for Guam and the
CNMI, citing recent increases in bunker fuel prices.
The company is raising its fuel surcharge by two percentage points, from
17.5 to 19.5 percent, effective March 11, 2007.
