A man and a woman
are facing charges of marijuana trafficking and possession for allegedly
selling the illegal substance.
Based on Criminal Case No. 07-022, Edwina Sugiyama and Manuel Takami are
each charged with trafficking in a controlled substance and possession
of a controlled substance.
Sugiyama was charged with three counts of trafficking in a controlled
substance and one count of possession charges.
Takama is facing one count each of trafficking and possession charges.
According to the affidavit of probable cause executed by Bureau of Public
Safety Officer Dolyn Tell, an anonymous caller reported to the police
that defendant Sugiyama is reportedly selling marijuana joints at her
residence located in Ikelau, Koror State.
The affidavit said that the police then got the services of a confidential
informant (CI) who was instructed to buy two marijuana joints from Sugiyama
last Nov. 9, 2006.
After the police gave the CI marked money, the CI allegedly drove to the
residence of the suspect.
The CI then allegedly bought two joints from Sugiyama and after a field
test was conducted the joints tested positive for marijuana.
On Nov. 16, 2006, another controlled buy was conducted, this time the
CI allegedly bought the marijuana joints from Takami.
Another controlled buy was done against Sugiyama on Nov. 20, 2006 and
another one on Jan. 8, 2007.
The affidavit said that on Jan. 11, 2007, the Narcotics department
executed a search warrant at Sugiyamas residence.
During the search, police reportedly recovered a cigarette roller, seven
marijuana joints, two partially smoked marijuana joints, two pack of cigarette
wrappers, over one ounce of dried marijuana leafs, over two ounces of
marijuana buds and $25 in U.S. currency that was said to be the marked
money used during the controlled buys.
The defendants were then arrested and Sugiyama in her written affidavit
claimed that the marijuana recovered on the scene allegedly belonged to
Takami.
