Statistics showed
that employment in Palau is steadily increasing over the years, especially
in the private sector.
This is based on a data provided by Minister of Finance Elbuchel Sadang
during a press conference with the Director General of the Pacific Department
of the Asian Development Bank, Philip C. Erquiaga.
Erquiaga made a made a presentation on ADBs technical assistance
program in Palau at the conclusion of the Economic Symposium last Friday
at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center.
The data noted the number of employees by sector and after a five-year
period.
Private sector employment showed a total of 2,915 in 1991 or 56 percent
increase; 4,164 in 1995 or 59 percent increase; 6,221 in 2000 or 66 percent
increase; and 7,741 in 2005 or 69 percent increase.
Government employment totaled 2,287 in 1991 or an increase of 44 percent;
2,953 in 1995 with an increase of 41 percent; 3,152 in 2000 with an increase
of 34 percent; and 3,272 in 2005 with an increase of 31 percent.
Public Enterprise employment was 104 in 1991; 86 in 1995; 180 in 2000;
and 234 in 2005.
Non-government and non-profit employment was 123 in 1991; 156 in 1995;
216 in 2000; and 211 in 2005.
Foreign embassy employment was seven in 1991; six in 1995; seven in 2000
and 11 in 2005.
