TEN teams will be vying for the title in the Wells Fargo Financial/PSS Interscholastic Girls’ Basketball Tournament this Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
San Antonio, which will be gunning for back-to-back crowns, is bracketed in Pool A along with Dandan Elementary School, William S. Reyes Elementary School, San Vicente Elementary School and Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School.
Pool B is composed of Oleai Elementary School, Tanapag, Garapan, Kagman and Koblerville.
Each team will play three games in the elimination and will face the squads in their brackets.
The top two teams in each pool after the elimination round will advance to the playoffs. The first placer of Pool A fights the second placer of Pool B and vice versa for the two finals berth.
The tournaments will start at 8 a.m. with Dandan colliding with San Antonio in Pool A and Oleai battling Tanapag in Pool B.
The playoffs will begin at 12:30 p.m., while the finals match is set for 1:30 p.m.
Trophies will be awarded to the top three placers after the tournament.
Koblerville’s Francis Mendiola, who is coordinating the tournament with Brandon Concepcion of WSR, thanked Wells Fargo for supporting this year’s PSS caging.
Wells Fargo Financial donated $1,000 for the tournament and handed the check to the organizers yesterday
“We would like to thank the management and staff of Wells Fargo. Without their help, this tournament would not be possible. We need this kind of activity to teach our students the value of sportsmanship,” Mendiola said.
After the girls’ division contest, the boys will have their turn next weekend.
The boys’ division also has 10 teams led by defending champion WSR.
WSR is group in Pool A with Dandan, San Antonio, San Vicente and GTC.
Pool B has Oleai, Tanapag, Garapan, Kagman and Koblerville.
The same format will be implemented in the boys’ division.
