Borja: Gov’t commits $2M in Compact funds to PSS

THE Public School System will get $2 million in Compact-Impact funds for fiscal year 2007.
This was what Education Commissioner David M. Borja told Variety on Wednesday.
He said Gov. Benigno R. Fitial committed the funding to PSS.
Each year, the CNMI is receives $5.1 million from the federal government for the costs of hosting migrants from the Federated States of Micronesia, Palau and the Marshall Islands. These three independent nations have compacts of free association with the U.S.
Borja said the $2 million will be used for the repair and rehabilitation of school buses on Saipan, Rota and Tinian.
PSS was allocated $38.6 million this fiscal year of which $32 million is for personnel; $4 million, utilities; $1.6 million, textbooks; and $1 million, operations.
