GOVERNOR Benigno R. Fitial is scheduled to leave the island tomorrow for California to undergo another medical check-up.
Press Secretary Charles P. Reyes Jr. said Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez will be the acting governor until Fitial returns from his medical leave.
Reyes said the governor’s return date is not confirmed yet and will depend on the recommendations of his doctors at the UCLA Medical Center.
The governor returned to the island in Dec. 2006 after being away for more than two months following successful neck and back surgery.
A first surgery to correct his lumbar spinal stenosis — the narrowing of the root cell at the spinal column — was done in Oct. 2006. The second was performed in December.
Reyes said the doctors wanted to check the governor’s progress since the operations.
