A 28-year-old man has been
convicted of sexually abusing a minor neighbor in 2002.
Alex Kalen Borja, appeared for a change of plea hearing on Wednesday morning
with his counsel, Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig.
Borja signed a plea agreement with the government represented by Assistant
Attorney General Joseph Taijeron and pleaded guilty to one count of sexual
abuse of a minor in the second degree.
Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama accepted Borjas plea and sentenced
him to five years in jail all suspended except for 90 days.
Lizama ordered Borja to report to the Department of Corrections on March
1 at 4 p.m. and serve 90 days in jail.
He was also ordered to pay a fine of $100, and an assessment fee of $25.
Borja, moreover, will perform 1,000 hours of community work service at
10 hours per month, and was placed on probation for five years.
According to the plea agreement, Borja, on or about Dec. 1, 2002, engaged
in sexual penetration with the minor victim who was 14 years old.
An amended information on June 14, 2005 was filed against Borja for abusing
his minor neighbor.
