Time to make tough decisions-Remengesau

President Remengesau said that its time to make tough decisions following the conclusion of the weeklong Economic Symposium.
He said that the as a result of the inputs brought out by the local and international experts tough decisions will be made through legislation which will be conducive to growth and expansion.
He said it is about time to enact laws and put in place necessary policies to spur economic growth.
The president said the policies do not necessarily means new tax reforms.
The symposium focused on the sustainable economic development of the country
The Compact Review Commission spearheaded the symposium.
CRC was established to look into the strength and weakness of the Compact which will be up for renegotiations on Sept. 2009.
The recommendations gathered by the commission will be used by the renegotiating team on 2009.
The president said the overall economic summit turned out to be a very positive for Palau
The president said that that economic symposium was a success because it brought out ideas from local and international experts.
" I am happy that most of the speakers supported Palau sustainable development and balanced growth and allow quality development but at the same to protect the environment," the president said.
Remengesau said that the government and the private sector should agree to reach the gap and that the government should be making tough decision by coming up with policies conducive to growth and expansion.
CRC Chairman Kuniwo Nakamura said that although the grassroots did not participate in the symposium, the elected officials who attended the symposium have represented every sector well.
Nakamura said that the symposium gave the commission different perspective.
Nakamura said the commission will now work day and night to address the economic issues.
He said through the review Palau would be able to determine the future of Palau.
