Some
110 students from the six different high schools in Palau visited the
Conservation Area in Kayangel called as the Ngeruangel Bird Sanctuary
on Feb 24.
The weekend trip, which was organized by the staff of the Palau Community
College Upward Bound Program, is part of the students Science and Cultural
Field trip.
The students rode on three boats for the two-hour trip to Kayangel Fisheries
Dock, where they picked up Conservation Officer Peace Kemesong.
Leading the field trip were Upward Bound Program Director Kuye Belelai,
Assistant Program Director Helen Immanuel, instructors and alumni accompanied
the students for the trip.
From the main Island of Kayangel, the students took the 30-minute ride
to the spot where they enjoyed feeling the natural wonders of the area
and watched the birds that pry on fish around the area.
Belelai said that the students went there to observe and study the speck
of reefs, which accordingly was once inhabited but a powerful typhoon
nearly wiped out the area and the people were forced to evacuate to Kayangel.
From the bird sanctuary, the students had their lunch at the Fisheries
Dock, had fun around the area, some played volleyball game, swam on the
port and toured the Island before their trip back to Koror.
Belelai said that PCC President Patrick Tellei is very supportive of this
kind of endeavor and he wanted the students to study hard and join activities
like this.
Belelai also expressed appreciation to the State Government of Kayangel
for their cooperation and support.
