DCCA I, Labor battle for men’s softball crown

THE Department of Community and Cultural Affairs I and the Department of Labor disposed of their semis rivals in the 2006 Inter-gov’t Softball Leagues to set up their title series in the men’s division of the annual tournament.
DCCA 1, which took the pennant, remained undefeated entering the best-of-three championship series, after slipping past No Zone, 19-12, last Wednesday at the Miguel “Tan Ge’ Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
It was another team-effort win for DCCA, which drew solid games from Julian and Tony Camacho, Mel Sakisasat and Joey Dela Cruz.
Sakisat went 4-for-5 with four runs, one double, one triple and one RBI. Dela Cruz was also 4-for-5 and scored three runs, two doubles and three RBIs.
Juan was 4-for-5 with three runs, one double and two RBIs. Ton went 3-for-5 and scored three runs, one triple and one RBI.
Mario Sablan, Benjie Tagabuel and James Fleming combined for five runs.
Labor grabbed the second finals berth after downing the Ports Police, 13-10.
Howard Sablan and Tim Wesley were the top performers in Labor’s win as they both went 3-for-4 on the field.
Sablan and Wesley also scored two runs apiece.
Chris Alepuyo only went 1-for-3 with no runs, but he had three RBIs, while Mike Sablan went one-of-three with one run and two RBIs.
Labor and DCCA I were playing in Game 1 of their best-of-three title showdown last night, but the results were unavailable at press time.
The Ports Police and No Zone also played the consolation match last night.
Game 2 of the finals series is set for today. Game 3, if necessary, will also be played tonight after Game 2.
In the women’s division, DCCA clobbered the Public School System, 16-6, to secure the second finals berth and meet the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. in the best-of-three title series.
Arlene Likasup was perfect from the field going 3-for-3 with two runs, one double and three RBIs.
Jovier Omar also had three RBIs and went 1-for-3 with two runs and a triple.
Jen and Don Somol, Gloria Rogolifoi and Mona Taisacan all went 2-for-3 with two runs apiece and two RBIs each.
DCCA and CUC started their title series yesterday but the results of the match were unavailable at press time.
Games 2 and 3, if necessary, are set for tonight.
Pennant champion Finance won the consolation match last Wednesday beating PSS, 9-5.
