THE NMI Republican Party leadership
is receiving nominations for precinct officers now that its board of directors
has begun implementing amendments to the partys bylaws that the
Precinct 4 club says it will not recognize.
GOP secretary and spokesman Kimo M. Rosario, in an e-mail, said the party
chairman, former Rep. Thomas B. Pangelinan, will himself contact the nominees
for Precinct 4.
The new club officers will assist the partys central committee in
selecting candidates for the coming midterm elections.
But Precinct 4 club officials insist that they have already nominated
Sylvestre Iguel and Barbara Yamada as their candidates for representatives.
The precincts incumbent Republican House member, Candido B. Taman,
has said he will seek another term with or without the GOP nomination.
On Friday, Rosario said in his e-mail, the GOP board of directors, which
includes Pangelinan, first vice president Bennet Seman, and treasurer
Karl T. Reyes, met to discuss the partys annual report and the nominations
for precinct club officers.
The partys second vice president Roman Tudela also showed up but
was later excused, Rosario said.
No nominations were received from Precinct 2, which is considered the
bailiwick of the ruling Covenant Party, but there are several nominations
from other precincts that are now being reviewed by the partys board
members.
