GOLFERS have about one month
to gear-up for a no-holds barred fundraising extravaganza in the name
of education.
On Saturday April 7, 2007, the St. Johns School will host its third
annual Scholarship Golf Tournament. According to Jenny Shimizu of St.
Johns the effort is to raise funds for scholarships to offset the
costs associated with attending the college prep school. This allows students
who illustrate high academic standing and demonstrate other personal achievements
but cannot afford the annual tuition a chance to enhance their academic
gifts with a quality education from St. Johns.
According to Dr. Jorge Nelson, St. Johns School Headmaster, 39 students
have received scholarships to attend St. Johns due in large part
to the success of the annual tournament and other contributions. The
need-based program assists students in grades 6 to 12 who maintain high
academic standing and demonstrate other personal achievements, stated
Nelson.
St. Johns is seeking sponsors for the event. Sponsors are
still being sought and are urged to contact Jeni Shimizu at jshimizu@stjohnsguam.com
or 646.8080, stated the release. The 3rd Annual Scholarship Golf
Tournament will take place at the LeoPalace Resort Guam. Returning for
the second year as Tournament Chair is Mr. Nike Inoue of Nanbo Insurance
and alumnus of St. Johns .
Shimizu reiterated that proceeds from the event will support the St. Johns
School Scholarship Program.
During game day, Check in is at 7:00 a.m. and includes a continental-style
breakfast before tee off at 8:00 a.m. The Two Person Best Ball entry fee
is $250, or $125 for a single player. Entry fees include green fees and
awards banquet.
