MECHAS DAY IN OLLEI

By Nazario Rodriguez Jr.
Horizon news staff

It was a renewal of friendship between two women’s groups from two states of Babeldaob.
Last Sunday Feb. 25, Ngarchelong’s women’s organization, Klikm, hosted the women’s group from Ngatpang, Ngara Mengidab, at the Ollei Dock to a late New Year celebration, both sharing and showcasing chants, cultural dances and mixed with modern music, fun and laughter and sexy tunes.
It was also to find ways on how they would be able to cope up with the sings of the times and contribute to economic development and share views about the future of not only their states but about Palau and the future generation.
Dilmai Saiske, one of the main organizers of the event and served as the master of ceremonies, explained that this is to fulfill an earlier promise made by the women of Ngarchelong to invite the women of Ngatpang for the New Year celebration.
She recalled that the Ngara Mengidab hosted the Klikm to a Christmas Party in Ngatpang.
And it is no wonder that the two women’s groups are closely tied-up because the first lady of Ngarchelong State, Salwai Salvador, is from Ngatpang State.
Dilmai estimated around 100 women from both states and guests that also included Taiwan Ambassador Matthew S. Lee, who just happened to pass by the Ollei Dock from a visit to Kayangel State with Vice President Camsek Elias Chin.
The 50 or so women from Ngatpang was led by Ebiil Misako Merep while the women of Ngarchelong was led by Uodelchad Elmai Ngirengkoi.
