HONIARA (Pacnews)
Naurus Our Airline made an emergency landing at Honiara International
Airport after its cockpits windscreen cracked.
The Boeing B737-300 was on a scheduled flight to Honiara when the incident
happened. As a result the aircraft was grounded and spent three days at
the Honiara Domestic Terminal to allow local engineers to assess the damaged
windscreen.
Solomon Airlines engineering departments general manager Brian Johnstone
confirmed the incident adding that it was the worst damaged he has seen
in his 20 years aviation career.
Solomon Airlines was involved in the assessment.
The aircraft was carrying passengers at that time and most of them have
to be accommodated at Honiara hotels while waiting for the repair to be
done. The delay in fixing the problem was because the windscreen and engineers
had to be flown in from Australia.
The B737-300 was grounded until a new windscreen and engineers were
flown in on the Solomon Airlines Saturday flight. With the assistance
of CAD, Patricks and Solomon Airlines support the aircraft was returned
to service Sunday morning, the delays were compounded by an inoperative
APU, Johnstone said.
Our Airline is operating scheduled flights between Australia, Tarawa,
Majuro, Nauru via Honiara.
