THE defending
champion SAIPANCELL Patriots kept their unbeaten record, while the the
Kautz Glass Pirates entered the win column in the Majors division of the
2007 Saipan Little League Baseball tournament last Saturday at the Miguel
Tan Ge Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
The Patriots improved to a 4-0 record after downing the Mobil Kagman Aztecs,
7-3, while the Pirates notched their first win in three games beating
the PTI Jets, 14-2.
Pitchers Iguel and Brian Camacho and the Patriots defense held the Aztecs
to no runs in the last four innings.
Iguel was the Patriots starting pitcher allowing only two hits and
striking out three batters at the top of the first.
Neither team scored a single run in the first inning, the Patriots picked
up the pace and scored four runs at the bottom of the second.
The Aztecs had three runs at the top of the second, but that was their
last say as Iguel continued to pitch well in the third and fourth innings
allowing no runs and just four hits. Camacho took Iguels place at
the top of the fifth and struck out the Aztecs first three batters. At
the top of the sixth, Camacho struck out Kagmans first two batters
before allowing the Aztecs second baseman to score a triple.
The Aztecs chances for an upset disappeared when shortstop Leroy
Reyes flied out for Kagmans third out at the top of the sixth.
In the second game, the Pirates allowed no runs in the first four innings
to claim a 12-point win.
Starting pitcher Damien Torres pitched the first two innings allowing
only one hit.
Relief pitcher Ray Victoria came in in the third and after walking Jake
Agulto struck out the next two batters.
The top of the third ended with Pirates second baseman Patrick Reyes
throwing the ball to first baseman LJ Norita, who beat runner Devyn Flores.
The Jets got on the scoreboard at the top of the fourth when the Patriots
had already secured the win.
In other results, the PTI Fielders whipped the Northern Angels, 20-2,
in the Big League division.
Second baseman Cadez Tenorio went 4-for-4 for the Fielders scoring a single,
a double and two runs.
