THE defending champion SAIPANCELL Patriots kept their unbeaten record, while the the Kautz Glass Pirates entered the win column in the Majors division of the 2007 Saipan Little League Baseball tournament last Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
The Patriots improved to a 4-0 record after downing the Mobil Kagman Aztecs, 7-3, while the Pirates notched their first win in three games beating the PTI Jets, 14-2.
Pitchers Iguel and Brian Camacho and the Patriots defense held the Aztecs to no runs in the last four innings.
Iguel was the Patriots’ starting pitcher allowing only two hits and striking out three batters at the top of the first.
Neither team scored a single run in the first inning, the Patriots picked up the pace and scored four runs at the bottom of the second.
The Aztecs had three runs at the top of the second, but that was their last say as Iguel continued to pitch well in the third and fourth innings allowing no runs and just four hits. Camacho took Iguel’s place at the top of the fifth and struck out the Aztecs first three batters. At the top of the sixth, Camacho struck out Kagman’s first two batters before allowing the Aztecs second baseman to score a triple.
The Aztecs’ chances for an upset disappeared when shortstop Leroy Reyes flied out for Kagman’s third out at the top of the sixth.
In the second game, the Pirates allowed no runs in the first four innings to claim a 12-point win.
Starting pitcher Damien Torres pitched the first two innings allowing only one hit.
Relief pitcher Ray Victoria came in in the third and after walking Jake Agulto struck out the next two batters.
The top of the third ended with Pirates’ second baseman Patrick Reyes throwing the ball to first baseman LJ Norita, who beat runner Devyn Flores.
The Jets got on the scoreboard at the top of the fourth when the Patriots had already secured the win.
In other results, the PTI Fielders whipped the Northern Angels, 20-2, in the Big League division.
Second baseman Cadez Tenorio went 4-for-4 for the Fielders scoring a single, a double and two runs.
