How’s the weather?

By R. Vincent Tupaz
For Variety

HAFA Adai Sports Fan! How’s the weather treating you these days?
I for one am enjoying the weather. This chicken soup weather is good for the soul and for Mama nature. Albeit, I’m, sure it’s not ideal for ocean boarders and cancelled games. Still life will go on. Games, at least some, will be rescheduled and some boarders will be rescued. Put fa’bot stay out of the water dolls until the weather is “the more betta.”
Someone commented that they so love the current state of our weather. She said it reminded her of Hawaii or Baguio in the Philippines and stated that if it stayed like this, more people would move out here. Well you know what, you can stay where you’re at because though I enjoy a variety of things including changeable weather patterns, I love my Guam sunshine! It’s hot and you certainly get fa’che’ or masahalom, but it’s pure and clean and mean.
Speaking of mean, the fallout of the Paseo Stadium lease agreement with the Guam Baseball Federation is getting out of hand. I’m not too involved in the intricacies except what was relayed via press releases and comments from both sides. With the Governor’s go to man Joe Duenas back at the Department of Parks and Recreation it behooves all who deal with the department to be on the up and up. I don’t know Joe personally, but I’ve come to understand he’s a pretty cut and dry gentlemen. A straight shooter who’ll “get er done.” So let’s get it done for the athletes.
I’ve resisted covering the DPR, GBF fiasco regarding the lease because I believe it’s full of ca’ca and politics and should be for the inside pages. The bottom line is this - The stadium is for our athletes. And what needs to be ensured is - are we the public getting the best bang for our buck? Are our athletes able to compete, train and develop in an atmosphere better than what DPR can offer? If so, then we need to work out the differences and make good on any commitments from both entities. Is it a matter of leadership? If it is; then the leadership needs to step back and let others mediate a common ground so that our athletes can concentrate on their growth in the sport and putting on a good show for the island of Guam, never mind the weather up their where egos abound.
Anyhow sports fans, enjoy that Kadu that nana made. It’s good for you.
