Palau-Indonesia diplomatic ties soon to be formalized

The establishment of a diplomatic relation between the governments of Palau and Indonesia will be soon formalized, according to Minister of State Temmy Schmull.
Scmull said that it has been two years ago that the ongoing communications for such diplomatic relation has started and which would start economic opportunities between both countries.
"I met two Indonesian foreign affairs officials twice before in Jakarta, Indonesia and Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea," said Schmull
Schmull said that the Palauan and Indonesian Embassies in Manila has recently advised him about the formal draft of a document that would pave the way for such establishment of diplomatic ties.
Schmull is presently reviewing the Communiqué and would consult within the week with President Remengesau.
Schmull said that the Indonesian government through Dr. N. Hasan Wirajuda, Minister of Foreign Affairs, requested that the Joint Communiqué should be signed in Jakarta but no schedule yet as of this time.
Accordingly, the main objective of the Joint Communiqué is the desire to promote and strengthen ties, mutual respect and independence and territorial integrity between Palau and Indonesia.
Also, such diplomatic relation is on the ambassadorial level.
The Indonesian Ambassador in Manila will be appointed as the non-resident Ambassador to Palau and that the Ambassador of Palau in Manila as non-resident Ambassador to Indonesia.
Palau’s Ambassador to the Philippines is Ramon Rechebei.
