Over $22,000 had been raised for Team Palau athletes who will represent the country in this year’s Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa during the birthday celebrations of President Remengesau and First Lady Debbie Remengesau last Wednesday night at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center.
Palau National Olympic Committee Secretary General Baklai Temengil said that they plan to send a maximum of 150 athletes for the Games.
Palau will compete in 10 different events, some of these are weightlifting, wrestling, archery, table tennis, basketball, baseball, athletics and softball.
Minister of Community and Cultural Affairs Alexander Merep and Sinton Soalablai are the designated Chef De Mission and Deputy Chef De Mission for Team Palau.
Asked about his message for the would be selected athletes for the quadrennial event, the President said that the athletes must commit themselves during the training.
"They must show their dedication to represent Palau," the president said.
Remengesau assured that the government will do everything to support the athletes financially.
The president said that if ever selected, each athlete must have the heart and dedication to hardwork.
"I wish them well to train hard as they can in order to succeed," he said.
