PLAYERS from
the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs went home with the most
individual awards in the 2006-2007 Inter-govt Softball Leagues.
Last Friday in a brief award ceremony at the Miguel Tan Ge
Basa Pangelinan Ballfield, DCCA I pitcher Jovie Omar won both the regular
season and finals Most Valuable Player trophies in the womens division.
Omar helped the second ranked DCCA I beat the Public School System in
the semifinals and then anchored her teams 27-10 victory in the
deciding Game 3 of their title series against the Commonwealth Utilities
Corp.
In Game 3, she went perfect at the plate going 5-for-5 with four runs,
three singles, one double, one triple and two RBIs.
Other individual awardees in the womens division were Bert Camacho,
Edwina Bauchelong, Emy Quitugua, Dolores Yaneres, Jennifer Palacios and
Maryaan Yamada.
Camacho topped the homeruns and runs race, while Bauchelomg and Quitugua
had the most triples and doubles, respectively.
Yamada had the most strikeouts and was also named the Most Improved Player
in the league.
The batting champion award went to Palacios, while Omar and Yaneres tied
for the most RBI award.
The Sportsmanship Trophy went to the Department of Public Health, while
Finance, which finished the regular season with a 7-3 record, went home
with the pennant trophy.
In the mens division, DCCA pitcher Mel Sakisat and first baseman
Ton Camacho were named co-Finals MVP.
In the winner-take-all Game 3 of their finals series against Labor, Camacho
was 4-for-5 at the plate with one run and four homeruns. He also had 8
RBIs. Three of his four homeruns were over the fence.
Sakisat pitched in no relief for six innings in Game 3 and allowed only
one hit in the first two innings, which ended with Labor unable to score
single run.
On offense, Sakisat was perfect at the plate hitting 5-for-5 with four
runs, four singles, one home run and three RBIs.
The regular season MVP trophy went to No Zones Jerry Ayuyu, who
was also named batting champion with his .914 on a 32-for-35 hitting.
No Zones second baseman also ruled the triples race with his 10.
Camacho won two other awards topping the runs (39) and RBIs (43).
Sakisat had the most doubles with 19 and was the ERA champ with his 2.98
average.
No Zones Juan Diaz had the most strikeouts with 16.
Tony Celis of Labor was the homerun king.
