THREE Jeremiah players who
helped their team stunned pennant champion Daniel in the finals of the
2nd Calvary International Mission-Filipino Community Church Inter-Color
Basketball League-Genesis Invitational Cup were rewarded for their efforts
during the award ceremony last Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
Kevin Cequena, who stepped up for Jeremiah in absence of their key players
in the elimination round, claimed the regular season Most Valuable Player
award.
In the finals, Cequena exploded for 27 points, including 10 markers in
the crucial fourth quarter.
Teammate Errol Peredo was named Finals MVP after leading Jeremiah to a
105-84 win over Daniel in the title match.
Peredo scored 30 points in the finals despite getting into foul trouble
in the third period.
His nine points in the fourth helped Jeremiah recover from a 67-70 decifit
at the end of the third canto.
In three games in the playoffs, Peredo averaged 27.3 points per match.
He scored 26 points apiece against Nehemiah in the quarterfinals and Joshua
in the semis.
Ronnel Gamboa had 17 points in Jeremiahs title win over Daniel and
drilled three triples.
He had a good practice during the 3-point shootout before the finals match.
Gamboa beat five other participants in the 3-point shootout making a total
of eight triples. He won over Isaiahs George, Joshua Michael
Achas, Calebs Ronald Delos Reyes, Elijahs Greg De Leon and
Daniels Noel Puno.
Rene Pe of third placer Joshua claimed the Veteran-Playmaker of the Conference
trophy, while the Sportsmanship award went to Isaiah.
Meanwhile, Puno, who is the league commissioner, thanked the 10 teams
that participated in the second edition of the Genesis Cup and all the
supporters of the tournament.
