THREE Jeremiah players who helped their team stunned pennant champion Daniel in the finals of the 2nd Calvary International Mission-Filipino Community Church Inter-Color Basketball League-Genesis Invitational Cup were rewarded for their efforts during the award ceremony last Saturday at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
Kevin Cequena, who stepped up for Jeremiah in absence of their key players in the elimination round, claimed the regular season Most Valuable Player award.
In the finals, Cequena exploded for 27 points, including 10 markers in the crucial fourth quarter.
Teammate Errol Peredo was named Finals MVP after leading Jeremiah to a 105-84 win over Daniel in the title match.
Peredo scored 30 points in the finals despite getting into foul trouble in the third period.
His nine points in the fourth helped Jeremiah recover from a 67-70 decifit at the end of the third canto.
In three games in the playoffs, Peredo averaged 27.3 points per match. He scored 26 points apiece against Nehemiah in the quarterfinals and Joshua in the semis.
Ronnel Gamboa had 17 points in Jeremiah’s title win over Daniel and drilled three triples.
He had a good practice during the 3-point shootout before the finals match.
Gamboa beat five other participants in the 3-point shootout making a total of eight triples. He won over Isaiah’s George, Joshua’ Michael Achas, Caleb’s Ronald Delos Reyes, Elijah’s Greg De Leon and Daniel’s Noel Puno.
Rene Pe of third placer Joshua claimed the Veteran-Playmaker of the Conference trophy, while the Sportsmanship award went to Isaiah.
Meanwhile, Puno, who is the league commissioner, thanked the 10 teams that participated in the second edition of the Genesis Cup and all the supporters of the tournament.
