Minister of Commerce and Trade Otoichi Besebes said Palau is now ready to host the upcoming Pacific Aviation Directors Workshop with some 75 participants expected to attend.
Guam hosted the annual event last year.
Resource speakers from the United States Federal Aviation Administration will be here to discuss issues regarding safety and security of the airport.
The US-FAA is funding major projects in Palau and the Federated States of Micronesia.
This included the ongoing improvement of the Palau International Airport with a total of $26 million.
Besebes said that the surface, tarmac, apron are almost finished while the Airport Rescue and Fire-fighting Facility is also soon to be completed. There will be also be a perimeter fence to be erected.
Two fire trucks will arrive soon.
The country is also looking forward for Airport Improvement Projects funds for Peleliu and Angaur.
Besebes said that the airstrips needed improvements to be used as an alternate route when there is a problem to arise in the Airai airport.
The Capital Improvement Projects office is designing the renovation of the airstrips.
Recently, the Air Force Civic Action Team 07-03 made initial clearing operations on both airstrips.
"We have to finish what the CAT stated in Peleliu," Besebes said.
