THE Division of Immigration
on Tuesday arrested three foreigners two men and a woman
for overstaying in the CNMI without lawful documents.
Antonio Bautista, Marcelina Nanglihan and Hiroshi Usami were brought to
Superior Court for a bail hearing yesterday morning.
Associate Judge David A. Wiseman imposed a bail cash of $1,000 on Nanglihan
and Bautista, but allowed them to post $100 cash and $900 in an unsecured
or appearance bond.
A bail hearing for Usami was continued in the afternoon.
The affidavit of immigration investigator Richard Lizama states that Nanglihan
and Bautista are from the Philippines while Usami is from Japan.
Nanglihan entered the CNMI on Oct. 21, 1998 on a short-term tourist visa
and has overstayed in the commonwealth for more than eight years.
Lizama said he received an anonymous call that an illegal alien was residing
at a barracks in Chalan Kanoa.
Nanglihan was arrested there.
Bautista entered the CNMI as a non-resident worker. He worked as a plumber
in 1999, but his permit expired on Feb. 14, 2006.
Bautista failed to submit a renewal or expiration transfer application
after his permit expired and has overstayed in the CNMI for more than
eight months.
Immigration investigator Nicolas Reyes stated that Usami entered on a
short-term tourist visa on Nov. 7, 2006 and was authorized to stay until
December 7, 2006.
Usami did not submit an application to extend his tourist visa, Immigration
stated.
