Tropical disturbance brings heavy rains

By Emmanuel T. Erediano
Variety News Staff

A TROPICAL disturbance 352 miles south of Saipan brought heavy rains to the CNMI yesterday.
An advisory from the Emergency Management Office stated that the tropical disturbance combined with the remains of a northeast shearline to bring wet weather and rough surf over the past few days.
Based on information received from the National Weather Service on Guam, Saipan and Tinian will continue getting heavy rain showers ranging from 2 to 3 inches.
But EMO’s high surf and small craft advisories have been cancelled after the wind waves subsided to normal levels.
Heavy rains were expected to move northwest across the islands, and conditions should improve today as the disturbance and shear line dissipate.
Residents in low-lying areas were advised to take precautionary measures for possible flooding and while driving on the roadways, and to be prepared for low visibility and slippery roads.
