THE Commonwealth Ports Authority
will not offer a new or revised contract to its consultant Carlos Salas
and will instead hire him on a per project basis, according to CPA Executive
Director Clyde K. Norita.
He said the CPA board will address this issue during the next board meeting
on March 15.
In an interview on Tuesday, Norita said he met with Salas and we
agreed to an extension of his contract to April 30, 2007 so that he can
fully transfer his current workload to the management team of CPA.
Salas is a former CPA executive director. After retiring in Dec. 2005
to avail himself of the 30 percent bonus, CPA hired him as a consultant
for $79,200 a year.
According to Norita, Salass current contract will end on April
30, 2007. There will be no new contract or revised contract after that
date.
However, Mr. Salas will be available to CPA on a project by project
basis and as needed and initiated by CPA, Norita said, adding that
if CPA needs Mr. Salas after April 30, 2007, it will be through
a purchase order and confined to a specific assignment based on an hourly
rate. It is understood that the hourly rate will be much lower than what
he is making now.
