The steering
committee members of the Project for the Improvement of Solid Waste Management
in Palau held their fourth meeting on Wednesday to discuss the progress
of the ongoing work.
In attendance were Minister of Resources and Development Fritz Koshiba,
who is the chairperson of the steering committee, Koror Governor Yositaka
Adachi and Japan International Cooperation Agency Resident Representative
Yoshio Notsu.
Shigeru Kanaya, chief advisor of the JICA expert team, gave a summary
of the work achieved in the previous year, including all work items and
schedule of the project.
Project Manager Calvin Ikesiil Jr. of the Bureau of Public Works discussed
the progress of the rehabilitation of M-dock landfill while KSG SWM office
John O. Ngiraked Jr. made an update on the preparation of National Solid
Waste Management Plan, including the waste segregation in Koror.
Denold Dengokl of EQPB gave an overview of the achievement in Public Education
and Enhancement Committee being its chairman.
JICA expert Takahiro Kamishita discussed the progress of capacity development
in the project while Kanaya also discussed the works that are required
to develop recycling program and schedule up to March 2008
