THE first indoor volleyball action of the season will take place from April 20 to 22 at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym, as the Northern Mariana Islands Volleyball Association holds the 2007 Jam Attack.
The three-day tournament will have competitions in the men’s and women’s divisions.
The entrance fee is $150 per team.
In an email to the Variety, NMIVA vice president Taula Peter said they have received confirmation from several teams from Guam and Tinian that they will be joining the annual tournament.
Peter added that NMIVA is still waiting for a response from the Guam National indoor volleyball squad, which is preparing for the 2007 South Pacific Games.
NMIVA is encouraging volleyball enthusiasts to participate in the Jam Attack, as proceeds from the tournament will go to the NMI beach volleyball teams that will be competing in the SPG in Apia, Samoa in August.
Fifteen teams competed in last year’s Jam Attack, which served as a tuneup for the NMI teams that joined the 2006 Micronesian Games.
The NMI Nationals in the men’s and women’s divisions split into two teams, but failed to notch the championship.
Pikkan Gaga won the women’s division over Burma Pink, which was composed of the other half of the NMI women’s squad.
Guam’s NU Heights ruled the men’s division defeating Burma Blue, whic was led by the other half of the NMI men’s team.
The men’s MVP title went to the Height’s Rob Borden, who was a member of the Guam National Team that won the gold medal in last year’s Micronesian Games.
Pikkan Gaga’s Precy Torres took the MVP trophy in the women’s.
