ORGANIZERS of the 2007 Budweiser
Saipan Major League baseball tournament are in a wait and see mode, as
continuous rain has been postponing the kick off of the annual competition.
The league was supposed to open last Monday with six teams vying for this
years crown.
League coordinator Tony Rogolifoi said that as soon as the skies clear,
they will proceed with the opening ceremony at the Francisco Tan
Ko Palacios Ballfield.
The defending champion Budweiser Kings and last years runnerup the
Ford Rangers will open the action in the 2007 season of SML, as they square
off at 6:30 p.m. after a brief opening at 6 p.m.
The Kings, who also grabbed the pennant, took the championship after a
7-4 victory in Game 5.
They foiled the Rangers bid to win back-to-back titles.
The Bud Kings also dominated the individual awards with A.J. Allen claiming
the Finals Most Valuable Player trophy and James Kintol taking the regular
season MVP, Pitcher of the Year and Rookie of the Year awards.
If the league opens this Friday or on Monday, it will hold one game each
on Wednesday and next Friday.
The Saipan Korean Jaguars will take on the Masters Wednesday, while the
Tanapag Braves will challenge the Young Guns next Friday.
