Motheread/Fatheread trainers sought

(JKPL) — The NMI Council for the Humanities CNMI Motheread/Fatheread Program is looking for committed people who want to make a difference in their community by becoming Motheread/Fatheread parent trainers.
A Motheread training institute will be held on Saipan on April 2, 3, and 4.
Participants in the training will learn from national trainers how to use the Motheread/Fatheread curriculum with parents and adults in literacy programs.
This is a great opportunity for professional development for people who already work with parents as a part of their scope of work, as well as for people who want to volunteer their time to encourage parents to share stories with their children to foster a life long love of reading.
Applications are available at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library front desk or you can e-mail binauea@hotmail.com to receive an electronic copy. Applications are due to the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library by March 25. Space is limited.
For more information you can leave a message for Mary Binauea, Motheread/Fatheread coordinator, at the library at 235-7319 or 235-7322 or e-mail to the above address.

Advanced case management workshop

(NMC) — The Area Health Education Center at Northern Marianas College will complete the advanced case management workshop today, March 9.
Certificates will be given to the 57 participants who completed the training.
This workshop is a follow-on from last year.

The training this year is more advanced. Participants included 26 Public School System counselors and staff, eight Community Guidance staff, 12 Public Health staff, 10 Division of Youth Services staff and one from the Office of Adult Probation.
Dr. Crystal Mills, social work professor from Eastern Michigan University, conducted the workshop.
AHEC is a federal grant under the John A. Burns School of Medicine, University of Hawaii.
The local AHEC is one of several in the Pacific. Its mission is to increase and improve the quantity, quality and diversity of the health workforce in the area.
AHEC is developing a variety of allied health training including pharmacology tech and nursing.
Dr. Faye Untalan is the director of the AHEC program for the CNMI.
For further information about this training or about the program, call Dr. Untalan at 234-5498, ext. 1510 or 1511.

Green flag for Rota beaches

(DEQ) — The Division of Environmental Quality has analyzed water samples collected from Rota’s recreational beaches and storm water drainages as part of the regularly scheduled sampling.
None of the samples collected contained excessive concentration of fecal indicator bacteria nor did they exceed the CNMI’s marine water quality standards.
DEQ assigns all of the sampled beach sites a green flag.
