THE U.S. Attorneys Office
wants to get a sample of murder suspect Alvin Nash Quinatas handwriting,
which will be needed for his trial in a separate criminal case involving
theft.
Quinata, 23, the main suspect in the murder of Un Chong Kim, was earlier
indicted in the District Court of Guam on theft of government property
charges after he stole some $52,000 in cash and merchandise from the U.S.
Navy Exchange.
He allegedly purchased and received cash from the U.S. Navy store using
some 83 checks that had insufficient funds.
Seeking to gather more evidence for the charges, the U.S. Attorneys
Office filed a motion to require Quinata to supply samples of his handwriting.
Quinatas federal court trial was scheduled by U.S. Magistrate Judge
Joaquin Manibusan for April 11, 2007.
Judge Manibusan directed the defense to file its response to the motion
for a handwriting sample no later than March 14, while the U.S. Attorneys
Office should file a reply no later than March 16.
The court will rule on the matter without oral arguments from the parties,
according to Judge Manibusan.
Quinata is now in jail after he was indicted on aggravated murder charges
in connection with the death of Kim, his former employer, whose body was
found on Jan. 18, 2007 in a jungle area near the Sella Bay Lookout Park
in Umatac.
