Executive Officer Francesca Otong is the first candidate for Governor of Ngatpang State to file with the Election Commission last Friday March 2 with just over a week left before the deadline of filing on March14.
The Supreme Court earlier set the elections for Governor and the nine at-large members of the Ngatpang State Legislature on March 29.
Records showed that Otong has filed her candidacy at 11:05 a.m.
Seven aspirants for the State Legislature also have so far filed their candidacies in separate dates.
Elin R. Kloulchad and Rideph R. Emesiochel filed with the Election Commission on Feb. 20; Mers Arurang on Feb. 26; Siles Ngiraremiang on Feb. 27; Takemura Erungel on Feb. 28, Ochob N. Iyekar on March 1 and Jerry Nabeyama on March 5.
The upcoming election was a result of the recent state referendum, when the people of Ngatpang voted to prefer choosing the state officials through election instead of by the traditional way.
The Governor and the members of the Legislature will have a four-year term in office.
