For the past several days,
theres a new look that greets all of us along the main thoroughfares
of Koror.
Coconut and other old trees that for many, many years remind us of the
simple image of town are going down. Images that beatify the streets and
satisfy the souls are slowly eroding from our eyes.
And this is just the beginning Twenty-two points, plus triple-word-score,
plus fifty points for using all my letters. Game's over. I'm outta here.of
more unpleasant things that would meet us when we drive on the highway
or go to our places of work.
As early as January, the crew from the road and ground unit of the Bureau
of Public Works started cutting the trees and just on Sunday, the Public
Utilities Corporation began transferring the electric post and installing
a new line.
These are all part of the ongoing work for the eventual widening of the
Koror-Airai Road, Phase III of the Project for the Improvement of Inter-Island
Access Road in Palau.
Acting BPW Director Techur Rengulbai said that permits for the easement
of the road has been secured and that the community, landowners, government
agencies and all concerned have supported the clearing operations.
Actual construction of the road will soon commence within the year. Thus,
we have to be ready for the heavy traffic that will go with it.
In this issue, we have captured photos of some of the areas around town
that would in the future remind us of the old image of town.
