THE AA Enterprise-Tanapag Braves cruised to their fourth win in a row after a 12-2 victory against the Chalan Kanoa Bears in the Majors division of the 2007 Saipan Little League Baseball tournament last Saturday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
The Braves were awarded their fourth win in five games after only four complete innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. The George Camacho-mentored squad has yet to drop a game since losing to the defending champion SAIPANCELL Patriots in their debut game on Feb. 17, 1-12.
The Braves’ pitcher Peter Lieto was impressive both on offense and defense to lead his team to an easy win.
Lieto pitched in no relief allowing four hits and two walks. He had seven strikeouts. On offense, Lieto had three runs, one inside- the-park homer, and one RBI.
Lieto struck out the Bears first three batters at the top of the first inning and after a complete first inning, the Braves were ahead by three.
The Bears scored all their unearned runs in the second inning and lost their chance to recover when starting pitcher Derick Olopai was replaced at the top of the fourth. Olopai reached the allowed number of pitches in the game and was forced to move to centerfield
Lieto walked Bears’ leadoff batter Olopai at the top of the second. The Bears’ starting pitcher advanced to second after Jun Malite’s sacrifice fly.
Olopai reached homeplate when JJ Lizama hit a single. Roy Tudela then hit a triple to drive Lizama home for the Bears second run.
Tudela was left stranded on third base as Lieto struck out PJ Sablan and Joseph Attao was out at first base when the Braves’ third baseman Jothan Camacho picked up the grounder and threw to first baseman Nick JR Jones.
Jones later gave the Braves a 4-2 lead after scoring a run at the bottom of the second.
The lead increased to seven, 7-2, after three complete innings, as Lieto allowed only one hit at the top of the third and struck out EJ Villagomez and Malite.
After Jose Lizama hit a single, Lieto struck out Lizama. The Bears were called for their second out when Braves’ shortstop Ricky Joe Renguel caught the ball. Lieto walked Olopai , who was left stranded on first base as the former posted his sixth strike out in the game, getting Malite.
Lieto started the Braves scoring run at the bottom of the third with his inside-the-park homerun with the ball going to the right field.
The Braves began the top of the fourth with Camacho forcing the Bears’ lead off batter JJ Lizama to fly out.
The Bears’ catcher Roy Tudela then hit a double, but was left stranded on second base when Lieto struck out the Bears’ next two batters.
With two outs at the bottom of the fourth and the Braves a run away from ending the match, 11-2, Camacho hit a triple.
The Braves’ Jones was at bat next hoping to drive Camacho home to close the game.
JJ Lizama, who replaced the Braves’ second pitcher Malite on the mound, threw a wild pitch giving Camacho time to reach homeplate.
In other results in the Major division, the Ol’Aces I and 2 downed the Dragons, 11-6, and the Bank of Saipan Red Sox, 7-5, respectively, and the Hustlers blanked the Little Legals, 10-0.
In the Senior Division, the Sablan Topline Falcons whipped the PTI Hustlers, 14-3.
The Hustlers recovered in the Junior division beating the Pirates, 13-3.
