FIFTEEN players were named top performers in the middle school division of the Coalition of Private Schools basketball tournament last Friday in a brief award ceremony at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym.
Named to the Girls’ All-Conference Team were Liamwar Rangamar and Rima Halaby of the newly-crowned champion Grace Christian Academy, Zoe Jewell and Jellian Majors of runnerup Saipan International School and Jodel Fernandez of Saipan Community School.
Rangamar and Halaby were the topscorers in the Lady Eagles 29-24 win over the Lady Geckos in last Saturday’s championship match.
Jewell carried the cudgels for the Geckos hitting 16 markers in a losing cause.
Jake Deleon Guerrero of Mt. Carmel School led the Boys’ All Conference Team.
The Knights wingman exploded for 20 points in MCS’ 50-16 title win over Marianas Baptist Academy last Friday.
Joining Deleon Guerrero on the team were teammate Sam Yeol, GCA’s Andrew Salas and Romulo Mamaril, SIS’ Fred Lee, SCS’s Christian Hidalgo, the Seventh Day Adventist’s Nate Bautista, Whispering Palms’ Lucas Knecht and MBA’s Norman Chan.
The players received trophies for being named to the elite group.
Meanwhile, organizers of the private school caging will start preparations for the high school division of the annual tournament.
The Eagles are the defending champions in the boys’ division, while the Lady Geckos will be gunning for back-to-back titles this season.
GCA won over Mt. Carmel, while the Lady Geckos topped the Lady Eagles in the finals.
