By Emmanuel T. Erediano
Variety News Staff

DUE to “miscommunication,” dozens of Girl Scouts including some from Tinian waited at governor’s office for almost an hour yesterday only to be told that the official who was to sign the proclamation for Girl Scout Week could not make it.
One of the scouts’ mothers said they were saddened that the governor’s was unable to come as he was undergoing theraphy.
She said she and her daughter, together with other Girl Scouts, came all the way from Tinian on Sunday and stayed overnight for the proclamation signing..
She said they were to take the 5 p.m. ferry trip back to Tinian because they could no longer stay.
The governor’s public information officer Catherine Perry Anderson tried to re-schedule the signing for Wednesday.
Anderson said Lt. Gov. Timothy P. Villagomez was supposed to sign the proclamation, but he was believed to be on Tinian for a public hearing on the Marianas Resort Development Corp., which wants to lease public land for its casino project.
“There was a miscommunication,” Anderson said.
The Girl Scouts arrived at the governor’s office yesterday afternoon with their teachers and parents.
Kim Prinz, the Girl Scout overseas committee chairwoman, said they were celebrating their 95th anniversary this week.
As part of the celebration, they held an island-wide picnic at the Minatchom Atdao pavillion along Beach Road on Sunday.
Prinz said the girls learned how to tie knots, read a compass and put up first aid and healthy eating stations.
The week-long celebration, will also be highlighted by a cookie-making event, she said.
According to Prinz, the recipes for the cookies will come all the way from New York, and they are now trying to find a local bakery which can assist the girls in the project.
