THE Guam Police Department
had a busy weekend responding to a riot, a fake gun scare, a stabbing
incident, and a disturbance involving Navy personnel.
A 28-year-old man was brought to the Guam Memorial Hospital after he was
stabbed in his shoulder at the Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority
housing in Dededo.
GPD public affairs officer Allan Guzman said at 12:42 a.m. on Sunday,
Dededo Precinct officers responded to the Ghura housing and met with the
injured man. The man told police that a relative stabbed him.
The individual with injury was discovered by a relative who told
police that he had no knowledge about the cause of the attack or the suspect
in the case, Guzman said. The victim was transported to the
hospital and listed in stable condition. Police were still unable to provide
details of the incident because the victim was in a high state of intoxication
during the investigation and could not provide police with any information
about his attack.
A suspect was not arrested. This case remains under investigation.
Those with information about this case are encouraged to contact the police
at 475-8616 or the Guam Crime Stoppers at 477-HELP.
7 arrested in disturbance
At 12:09 a.m. on Sunday, GPD officers learned of a disturbance on Fujita
Road near the Tumon Precinct.
As a police officer approached a group of men, he noticed an individual
being held against a fence by this group. The officer requested for police
backup at which point the group became unruly and began challenging the
officers authority, said Guzman.
The police officers took custody of the men.
As a result of this incident, several active duty Navy Personnel
were arrested, Guzman added.
William Wesley McCullough, 22, of Tamuning; Scott Owen Nixon, 28, of Piti;
Stephen David Vanzant, 21, of Piti; Ryan Tyler Foster, 22, of Piti; Erwin
Melegrito Vargas, 27, of Tumon; Arthur Lee Stone Jr., 26, of Sinajana;
and Daniel Thomas Stover, 27, of Santa Ritaall assigned to the Naval
Station were arrested.
The charges filed included disorderly conduct, public drunkenness, resisting
arrest, obstructing government functions, and guilt by complicity.
Guzman said all the men were under the influence of alcohol. They were
all also booked and confined.
6 arrested in riot
Just 21 minutes after the Tumon disturbance was reported, six men were
arrested for rioting in Dededo.
According to Guzman, at 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Dededo Precinct officers
responded to a riot at Chalan Anita Street in Dededo.
Upon arrival, officers noticed a large group of individuals fighting
and dispersing as officers arrived to investigate, he said.
Arrested were Robinson Reyes, 24, of Dededo; Armando Johnny Aguila, 22,
of Yigo; Rocky Aguila, 22, of Yigo; Renster Johnny, 27, of Dededo; Tony
Orlando Reyes, 25, of Dededo; and Ferdinand Penuliar, 27, of Dededo.
According to Guzman, the men were all from Pohnpei. Charges included rioting,
disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness.
No serious injuries were reported and no individuals needed medical attention,
according to Guzman.
Fake gun scares motorists
On Saturday night, a woman told Dededo Precinct officers about two women
pointing a gun at passersby.
A 31-year-old female reported to police that while she was driving
past the Lechon Park in Dededo, she saw two females pointing guns at her
direction. She immediately proceeded to the Dededo Precinct to report
the incident. Police arrived and spotted the two suspected females,
Guzman said.
The women climbed into a beige Mazda Protégé which was followed
and pulled over by police. The suspects were taken into custody and brought
to the Dededo Precinct for questioning. Police recovered two toy handguns
in the vehicle.
One of the females was a 15-year-old who was referred to the Juvenile
Investigation Section.
The other woman, Repeka Makichy, 20, of Dededo, was arrested and charged
by GPD with reckless conduct and jurisdiction over an adult. She was booked
and later released.
The toy guns police confiscated are replicas of real guns,
Guzman said.
Guzman cited a case years ago when a Guam police officer shot a kid at
a park for pointing a gun which was later discovered to be a fake one.
Guzman said toy guns are no joke and that the two women who were arrested
on Saturday may have thought the incident was funny.
