A 28-year-old man will spend two years in jail for kidnapping and assaulting his girlfriend.
Alex Alfonso Augustine was convicted of two counts of assault and battery and one count of kidnapping after entering a guilty plea on Monday before Associate Judge David Wiseman.
Augustine was represented by Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig, while the government prosecutor was Assistant Attorney General Anne Marie Roy.
The jury selection was held on Monday morning but was cancelled after Augustine said he wanted to plead guilty.
Wiseman accepted the plea and sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment on the kidnapping charge.
But the sentence was suspended except for two years to be served concurrently with the assault and battery charges.
Augustine was sentenced to one year of imprisonment all suspended for the assault and battery charges.
He was placed on eight years of supervised probation and was ordered to pay a fine of $500, and a court assessment fee of $150.
He will perform 150 hours of community work service.
Augustine was ordered to report to the Department of Corrections on May 6 at 8 a.m. to start serving his unsuspended sentence.
Augustine was charged for beating his girlfriend and locking her in a room for a week at his residence in China Town in Oct. of 2006.
Police affidavit stated that Augustine accused her of cheating on him.
Augustine was also arrested for a domestic incident on Sept. 21, 2005 for beating up the same victim.
