By Gerardo R. Partido
Variety News Staff

SEVERAL World War II veterans who were stationed on Guam and Iwo Jima during World War II stopped by Guam recently.
The veterans were accompanied by a contingent of young Marines, which was organized in memory of Jimmy Trimble, a professional ball player who was stationed on Guam with the Third Marine Division.
In March 2005, the Baza Gardens Baseball Field was renamed Jimmy Trimble Baseball Field in honor of Jimmy Trimble and an annual celebration has been hosted by the mayor’s office.
In addition, several of the veterans and the young Marines brought along family members.
The delegation was given a warm welcome at the Yona Gymnasium with programs that included a friendship game of softball between the young Marines and the Yona Softball League, hula dance entertainment, presentation of awards, music, and a treat of local delicacies.
