AN employee of the Commonwealth Ports Authority was arrested for stealing a computer, an air-conditioner and a water dispenser at CPA’s incinerator building.
Jeffrey S. Santos, 35, was brought to Superior Court for a bail hearing yesterday.
Associate Judge David Wiseman allowed Santos to post 10 percent of the $10,000 cash bail and $9,000 in unsecured bond.
But Santos was remanded to the custody of the Department of Corrections when he failed to post bail.
Preliminary hearing was set for March 20 at 9 a.m. and the arraignment will be on March 26 at 9 a.m.
Santos was arrested on March 13 at his residence in Koblerville for burglary and theft.
The affidavit of Ports Police Sgt. Gary Cabrera stated that Santos was employed by CPA and was assigned at the incinerator building.
The affidavit added that on Saturday, March 10, at about 9:30 a.m., Ports Police Lt. James Ayuyu reported a burglary and theft incident at the CPA incinerator building.
Missing were a Dell flat screen desktop computer with CPU and keyboard, an 8,000 BTU window-type air-conditioner and a water dispenser.
There were no other items missing and there were no indications of any forced entry nor was there any other discrepancies discovered, the affidavit stated.
The burglary and theft incident was discovered by one of the employees, Brian Camacho, when he reported for work on Saturday morning.
Camacho and Santos were the only ones who had the key to the incinerator building.
On March 11, at 2:45 p.m., Ports Police Sgt. Joe S. Palacios interviewed Santos, who admitted stealing the three items and identified the pawnshops where he pawned the items.
Santos said he received a total of $266 as payments for the items.
He said he committed the crime to give his family money.
