XTERRA Global Tour is donating
to the Commonwealth Diabetes Coalition a portion of the proceeds from
the registration fees of this years Sunset Trail Run/Walk that is
taking place tomorrow at Micro Beach.
The coalition will get $5 for every $15 in entry fee Xterra collects.
Xterra named the coalition as the beneficiary of this years multi-sport
event that includes five-kilometer and 10-kilometer runs.
Last years Xterra trail run raised $500 for the NMI Football Association.
Xterra marketing director Trey Garmen said they select community organizations
as beneficiaries.
Garmen said some 200 athletes from 12 countries and jurisdictions will
participate in this years Xterra which will be held on Saturday.
Tayna Camacho, the Department of Public Healths Diabetes Prevention
and Control program manager, thanked Xterra during the press briefing
yesterday.
She said the donation will help the coalition in its prevention and awareness
efforts.
We are very excited to be involved with this years Xterra
and hope to recruit many walkers and runners, she said.
Xterra president Janet Clark said walking help lowers ones blood
sugar.
So we welcome everybody to come down and join the fun and be a part
of the Xterra family, she said.
It is our pleasure to be working with Tayna and the coalition and
we want to help spread the word that regular physical activity is the
best thing for your body, mind and spirit, she added.
The coalition was established to improve opportunities, build capacity
and enhance wellness benefits for persons with diabetes and those at risk.
The organization promotes healthy, active lifestyle and educates the community
about diabetes.
For the Sunset Trail Run/Walk, people can register on March 14 to 15 at
the Pacific Islands Club lobby from 12 noon to 4 p.m., and at March 16
at Micro Beach from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
