DEQ solicits comments on cleanup project

(DEQ) —  The Division of Environmental Quality encourages the community to provide comments on the proposed plan to cleanup the former Kagman airfield dumpsite by April 7.
Last week, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers held a public forum on March 7 at the Kagman High School cafeteria to discuss the plan to clean up the former airfield dumpsite
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers said it preferred a remedial alternative plan of limited excavation and capping to clean up the former dumpsite of heavy metals contamination.
The environmental investigation and cleanup is being performed under the Defense Environmental Restoration Program for Formerly Used Defense Sites.
The proposed plan provides an overview of the contamination discovered at the former dump site, the potential risks posed to human and ecological receptors, cleanup standards, and various remediation alternatives.
There is -30-day period to provide questions and comments due on or by Saturday, April 7.  Comments can also be e-mailed to Helen Takemoto at helene.takemoto@ poh01.usace.army.mil.
For more information, contact Ray Masga at 664-8500/01 or Helene Takemoto via fascimile at 808-438-7801.
