Books found abandoned belong to Ayuda Foundation

THE Ayuda Foundation is the owner of the old Guam Public School System textbooks and equipment found in Tiyan on Tuesday afternoon.
Ayuda Foundation project coordinator Jenny Leon Guerrero told Variety that the books were supposed to be stored in buildings 106 and 108 on “E” Street in Tiyan, instead of “F” Street where they were discovered.
Leon Guerrero said the Ayuda Foundation, a non-profit organization, has a memorandum of understanding with the Guam International Airport Authority to use some of the old buildings as storage space.
“We have a space on ‘E’ Street, in buildings 106 and 108. When the volunteer was about to deliver the books from M.U. Lujan Elementary School, he asked me for directions and I gave him directions. Unfortunately, the street signs in Tiyan are obliterated in many places. He found an empty building with 106 over the door so he proceeded to put the books in there. So it’s now on ‘F’ Street instead of ‘E’ Street,” Leon Guerrero said.
Leon Guerrero said she’s not aware of the discovery of the books by the police on Tuesday afternoon.
“Yesterday morning, I woke up and saw photos of the books on the front page and I knew exactly what happened when they mentioned F Street. I went to the site yesterday morning. There was a police officer guarding the place. We explained to them what happened and things are now okay,” Leon Guerrero told Variety.
Companies, schools, clinics, and hospitals donate to the Ayuda Foundation materials that are in good condition. The Ayuda Foundation sends these materials to the neighboring Micronesian islands.
Leon Guerrero said the books will remain on “F” Street as there are no available volunteers to move them to the correct building. She added that the buildings will be demolished in the next couple of months so they have to vacate them soon.
“We will get a container as soon as possible and fill it with these school items and medical equipment and send them to the Micronesian islands,” she added.
