Recycling firm denies violating environmental regs

By Emmanuel T. Erediano
Variety News Staff

THE owner of Triple Star Recycling Inc yesterday denied that his firm violated regulations for which the Division of Environmental Quality recently served them an administrative order.
Wagon Xiong, the recycling firm’s president, said DEQ released information about its order to the media without even issuing them a notice of violation.
In a letter to DEQ Director Frank Rabauliman, Xiong said the order that gave them until Feb. 27 to fully comply was signed and delivered on Feb. 28.
“How can DEQ give an order today and require compliance yesterday?” Xiong said.
He said they never disposed of any solid waste on any portion of the property in As Perdido.
The solid waste found on the northwest side of the property, he added, has been there for years.
He also denied burning any type of solid waste at their facility.
Xiong said DEQ “greatly tarnished the reputation” of his firm which has invested a lot of money in the CNMI.
DEQ “has done a great job in making us reconsider our future investment in the CNMI,” Xiong added
Variety contacted Rabauliman but was told that he was “busy.”
