Islanders rip Ranchers; Mesekiu bounces with two

The 2005 champion Peleliu Islanders scored their third win of the second round on Friday March 9 with a 66-63 decision against the slumping Ranchers in Division I of the 2007 Shell NBL at the Palau National Gymnasium.
Eli shot six of his 13 points in the fourth quarter while team captain Ditz sank two crucial two free throws in the endgame for the Islanders.
Ditz finished with six points for the Islanders, who improved their record to 7-6 in fifth place while the Ranchers remained winless after 13 outings.
The current team standings in Division I are Rivals (12-1), Peched (9-4), Breakers (9-4), Meda (7-5), Islanders (7-6), Styxers (5-7), Surangel Suns (5-8), Ididers (5-8), Ikelauans (5-8) and Ranchers (0-9).
In Division II, PCC Mesekiu won its last two games after dropping its first two in the second round.
Mesekiu won over Kabong, 75-73, on March 8 and over Klebokel on March 10.
Also on March 10, Palau Pacific Resort defeated Mason’s Hardware (formerly Matadors), 82-72, while the Bullets won by way of forfeiture against Kabong.
Other results were Blue Sharks over Kinsmen, 92-59, on March 8; 79ers over On Fire, 59-53, on March 9 and Mesang over Central, 91-75, on March 8.
The current team standings for the second round in Division II are Pool One – Jaguars (3-0), Mesang (3-1), Stingers (2-0), Bullets (2-2), Mesekiu (2-2), Kabong (1-3), Klebokel (1-3) and Central (0-3). Pool Two -- 79ers (3-0), Blue Sharks (3-1), On Fire (3-1), PPR (3-1), Peches (1-2), Airai (1-2), Mason’s Hardware (0-3) and Kinsmen (0-4).
