THE Dublon Chiefs completed
their upset bid against Watch & Learn in Game 1 of their semis series
in the World Organized Rocball Community League after nailing a 52-43
juiced-out win yesterday at the Marianas High School Gym.
The No. 3 seed Dublon Chiefs stunned the second-ranked Watch & Learn
last Wednesday by taking a 37-25 lead after two and a half sets.
The eventual winners shut out Watch & Learn in the first set, 17-0.
Watch & Learn recovered in the second set, but won only by a point,
15-14.
Watch & Learn was leading, 10-6, midway in the third set when the
game was called off, as students needed to return to class.
The game resumed yesterday with Watch & Learn picking up where it
left off taking a 17-5 win in the third set.
But entering the fourth set, the Dublon Chiefs were still leading by four,
36-32, and claimed the series opener with a 16-11 victory in the fourth
set.
In rocball, a juiced-out win is awarded to the team who wins the fourth
set and holds the lead after the regulation.
Ichnis Kapwich paced the Dublon Chiefs with 10 points on four aces and
one xunx.
Mark McDonald led Watch & Learns losing cause hitting 13 markers.
He had an ace, four kees and a goal, which he drilled in the third set.
Twelve aces, two xunxs and five kees were scored in the game.
Watch & Learn needs to prevail in Game 2 to force a deciding Game
3 and boost its chances for a finals ticket.
The winner of the Dublon Chiefs-Watch & Learn tiff will meet the victor
in the Mwaliyas-Da Lani Kynez semis pairing for the title.
The championship will be a best-of-seven games affair.
The Mwaliyas lead Da Lani Kynez, 1-0, after a 64-57 double overtime win
in the semis series opener last Tuesday.
