Robbery suspect in hospital

A ROBBERY suspect is in stable condition at the Guam Memorial Hospital for injuries he sustained from assaulting a police officer who arrested him yesterday morning.
Guam Police Department public information officer Allan Guzman told Variety that John Jesse Wells, 31, of Yigo, was arrested after he allegedly stole a 53-year-old woman’s purse containing about $10,000.
The woman, according to Guzman, was at the Korean Church in Harmon at 5:45 a.m. yesterday when Wells allegedly grabbed her purse and dragged her. He released her before he fled in a Nissan Sentra.
A witness took note of the license plate number of the vehicle and handed it to police.
Guam Police Hagatna precinct officers saw the suspect’s vehicle at 6 a.m. near the Sinajana Payless but lost sight of it.
Police officers from Hagatna and Tamuning proceeded to the residential address of the license plate number’s owner. Police saw Wells coming out of a bushy area on the property carrying a metal rake.
Wells allegedly assaulted an officer as he tried to resist arrest, according to Guzman. Police later were able to arrest him but he received some injuries.
